Wings Appeal Banger car run report

The banger car run was successfully completed over the Easter weekend, 2012. The daily reports are shown below:

Easter Monday 10pm. the motor "Per Ardua Ad Astra" and Steve have arrived back in Torquay. 1350 miles covered in 4 days. £401 raised for Wings Appeal. Many thanks to Ben Kibblewhite for co-driving during the run!

Easter Monday 10.30am. On route to Torquay via Southampton and Norton Canes services (M6 Toll). Final fundraising stop. Thank you once again to Roadchef for pulling out all the stops!

Easter Sunday 9pm. Arrived at Stafford for the final overnight stop. Had a good collection at the Tranwell car boot sale and then some excellent hospitality hosted by the Morpeth branch of RAFA. A big thank you to the chairman David Ramsay and his team for making us so welcome!

Easter Sunday 9am. On route from Edinburgh to Morpeth. A big thank you to the Premierinn for allowing the car to be positioned very close to the hotel door overnight. This allowed people to donate to the tune of £34!

Saturday 7pm. 
At the Edinburgh Airport Premierinn after the Scottish sector of the run. We left Carlisle this morning and went to Paisley. Onwards to the highest road in the UK and Scotland (what a climb!!) before tracking South East for our overnight stop. Pictures from the day in the album to follow.

Saturday 7.30am. Getting ready to leave the County Hotel in Carlisle for our next stop in Paisley to do some fundraising. Onwards to the Cairnwell Pass (highest public road in the UK, weather depending) then down to Edinburgh tonight.

Friday 7pm. Into Carlisle no problems to report! Wet and cold though! Banger in "Parc Ferme" for the night

Friday 5.15pm. At Killington Lake services (M6). Thanks to Roadchef for the free hot drinks! Had a steady trickle of people and donations so doing ok. On the way soon to Carlisle for dinner with the local RAFA branch secretary!

Friday lunchtime report: Snow go at Bwlch Y Groes! We arrived in Wrexham early due to our intended route on the minor roads being closed because of snow! On the road again around 1.30pm.

Good Friday 6th April. Getting ready for the run into Wales today with the banger. First stop will be the highest road in Snowdonia at Bwlch Y Groes then on to Wrexham where we will be fundraising in Queens Square betwen 11am and 1.30pm. Later between 3pm and 5pm approx we have a stop at Killington Lake services on the M6 for some more fundraising. Come and see us if you are anywhere nearby! Per Ardua Ad Astra!

Thursday 5th April evening update: After Steve and Ben met up in Bristol, we tracked North West to Telford for the overnight stop. An uneventful journey so far! The real test starts tomorrow when we tackle the Welsh hills in Snowdonia!! Pictures to follow.

The plan is to take in the highest points by road in England, Scotland and Wales, fundraising for Wings Appeal on the way. The route will cover Southampton, Bristol, Telford, Bwlch Y Groes, Wrexham, Killington Lake services (M6), Carlisle, Paisley, The Cairnwell Pass (Glenshee), Edinburgh, Morpeth, Tranwell Airfield,  Killhope Cross (A689 Cornriggs), New Mills, Stafford. Returning to Torquay via Southampton
